God of War TV series reveals first Look at Kratos and Atreus

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios unveiling a first look at Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus. The series follows the Norse-era storyline of the acclaimed video game, centering on a grieving father and son who journey to spread the ashes of Faye from the highest peak. “Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.” The Prime Video series is already confirmed for two seasons.

Sony’s epic God of War saga is coming to life, and the first glimpse has fans buzzing. It is going beyond the console and into live-action, offering brutal battles and deeply personal narrative to the small screen. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios have revealed the first official image from their live-action adaptation of God of War, providing fans an early glimpse at the series currently in production. The preview features Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus, introducing the legendary PlayStation duo into live action for the first time.

While early production images don’t always feature the completed look of a series, Hurst’s showcase seems to be strikingly faithful to the Norse-era version of Kratos, with the rugged beard, ash-marked skin, and battle-worn outfits fans remember from the games. Vinson’s Atreus, however, appears visibly younger than his video game counterpart. Showrunners have confirmed the character is 10 years old in this adaptation. Addressing fans directly, Vinson stated on Instagram, “I will bring honor to this role.”

A Father-Son Journey Begins

The newly released image came with the tagline: “Their journey to the highest peak begins.” The story follows Kratos and Atreus as they set out to scatter the ashes of Faye — wife to Kratos and mother to Atreus — from the highest peak in the realms.

An official synopsis describes: “Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god,” while Atreus, in turn, “tries to teach his father how to be a better human.” What begins as a solemn mission rapidly shifts into a sweeping mythological quest that tests their connection and forces Kratos to face lingering shadows from his violent past.

Atreus’ character description further discloses:

“Atreus, the 10-year-old son of Kratos, grew up in a remote forest cabin, isolated from the rest of the world and raised almost entirely by his mother, Faye. He is an accomplished archer, has an affinity for animals, and is intensely curious about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home. After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father who he barely knows and who knows little about him in return. Nonetheless, Atreus yearns for his father’s approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world.”

Expanding the Norse Myth Cast

The ensemble cast offers several legendary personalities from Norse mythology to life. Confirmed actors include:
