Prime Video has officially greenlit Calamities as a straight-to-series drama, marking a significant fresh project from creator, writer, and director David Weil, widely recognized for Hunters. The series is being produced under Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Natalie Laine Williams’ Please Enjoy banner and Glen Powell and Dan Cohen’s production company Barnstorm. Ryan Schwartz joins the team as co-executive producer.

The forthcoming show is set in Texas and focuses around the aftermath of a violent narcotics deal that throws a peaceful border town into turmoil. The event draws several characters into a widening spiral of crime and fallout, including a local sheriff confronting buried elements of her past, a ruthless assassin, an ambitious FBI agent, and a powerful cartel organization.
