Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Laegreid stunned fans this week when he used a live television interview, moments after winning bronze, to confess he had cheated on his girlfriend. What did Sturla Holm Laegreid say on Live TV?

Holm Laegreid made the unexpected confession shortly after securing bronze at the Antholz-Anterselva Biathlon Arena.

“There’s someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today," he said.

“Six months ago, I met the love of my life and the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. And three months ago I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her."

“I had a gold medal in my life. I only have eyes for her.

“I don’t know what I want to achieve by saying this, but sports have been a little different in recent days. So I wish I could share it with her," as per a report by The US Sun.

“You have to admit when you do something you can’t stand for, and hurt someone you love so much.”

Hours later, he revealed he had not yet heard from her. “I hope I don’t make it worse for her. Maybe it can help, I don’t know. We will see,” he said, adding, “I hope there’s light at the end of the tunnel for both of us.”

How did his girlfriend respond?

Writing to the Norwegian newspaper VG, Holm Laegreid’s girlfriend, who wishes to remain anonymous, addressed the public declaration.

"Even after a declaration of love in front of the whole world, it’s hard to forgive. I did not choose to be put in this position, and it hurts to have to be in it. We have had contact and he is aware of my opinions on this.”

Despite the circumstances, she congratulated him on his bronze medal and thanked her loved ones for their support.
