Carano, known for her role as Cara Dune in the first two seasons of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, was terminated after sharing a post on Instagram equating the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust to the political climate faced by Republicans today. The post suggested similarities between historical events and urged consideration of the consequences of hating individuals for their political views.
The legal action alleges wrongful termination and retaliation, accusing Disney of creating an environment intolerant of diverse opinions. Carano claims she was fired for expressing her own views and challenging the "online bully mob" advocating for compliance with a progressive ideology. The lawsuit further contends gender-based discrimination, asserting that two male co-stars faced no consequences for online posts maligning Republicans as Nazis.
In a lengthy statement on X, Ms Carano said she had been subjected to "a bullying smear campaign aimed at silencing, destroying & making an example out of me".
"Artists do not sign away our rights as American citizens when we enter into employment," she added, thanking Mr Musk and those who have supported her.
The billionaire shared her statement, writing: "Please let us know if you would like to join the lawsuit against Disney."
Mr Musk has previously vowed to financially support those facing discrimination for their posts on X.
In a statement on Elon Musk's X platform, Carano described the lawsuit as a response to a "bullying smear campaign" designed to silence her. Musk expressed support for free speech and invited others to join the legal action against Disney.
Representatives for Disney and Lucasfilm were not immediately available for comment.
