Generate AI images using Midjourney: A full how-to guide

The era of AI-generated artwork has arrived, and the internet is teeming with individuals trying their hands on to create the perfect prompts to drive AIs to make exactly the right images - or, perhaps, just the wrong ones. Isn’t it interesting? Midjourney is a popular AI programme that allows users to create dreamlike landscapes and subjects with just a few lines.

Here's how to generate AI images using Midjourney. Make sure to follow each step.

Ensure you have a Discord account as the image generating platform is fully based on Discord, therefore you must have an account there to use the feature. If you haven't already, you can sign up for Discord for free.


Go to Midjourney's website. Click on, Join the beta. This will take you to a Discord invitation.

After you are redirected to the page, click on the Accept Invite button to Continue to Discord.

Discord app will not launch immediately. When it happens, go to the left menu and select the ship-like Midjourney icon.

Find the Newcomer rooms in the Midjourney channels. There are usually a few newcomer rooms open, with names like "newbies-109," etc. You can begin with any of the below options.

You are now ready to start making AI art. Before you begin, keep in mind that your free trial only includes a limited amount of prompt options. You can make approximately 25 free photos. After that, you must purchase a full membership in order to continue.


When you're ready, type "/imagine" in your beginner room's Discord conversation. This will open a popup box where you can provide the image description. The more specific your description, the better the AI will be able to generate good results. Once you are done, press Enter to send your prompt.

Wait a minute for Midjourney to generate your photos. Typically, the AI will generate multiple variations based on your description. You now have several alternatives on how to proceed.

If you select an image you like and select U to enlarge it, you will be presented with a new set of alternatives. Among other possibilities, you can make variations on that image, upscale to max before downloading, or choose a light upscale redo if it's not quite what you expected.

When you're finished, DM the image to yourself by tapping the Envelope emoticon and adding it to your chat. You can then save and download the image whenever you wish.
