Who is the alias Nías?
According to Colombian authorities, alias Nías is the alleged head of hitmen for the organized criminal group El Mesa. Investigators say he has nearly 10 years of criminal background and is believed to be responsible for around 50 homicides.
Police said he allegedly began his criminal activity at the age of 13, building a violent record over the years. He was one of the primary targets in a year-long investigation led by a special Sijín unit of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, as quoted in a report by CAMBIO.

While the operation itself was a major law enforcement breakthrough, online attention surged after people noticed the suspect’s clothing during the arrest. Photos from the arrest showed the alleged gang boss in a “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” hoodie by Taylor Swift, an unexpected detail that quickly grabbed public attention alongside the seriousness of the case.
Despite the viral reaction, police emphasized that alias Nías was considered one of the most dangerous members of the gang and had been under investigation for homicide, drug trafficking, forced disappearance, and illegal firearm possession.
How did El Mesa operate in Bogotá?
Authorities identified 23 captured members of El Mesa, which had been operating across neighborhoods including La Gaitana, Fontanar, Villa Cindy, Santa Rita, Santa Cecilia, Lisboa, and Bilbao, as quoted in a report by Noticias Telemedellín.
Investigators said the group used taxi drivers as fronts to move drugs and weapons, transporting narcotics and firearms across the city.
They also rented houses for short periods to store weapons and package drugs, later distributing them in parking lots, clubs, and on neighborhood streets, as per a report by CAMBIO.

Police carried out 15 search and seizure warrants in Suba, Soacha, and Chiriguaná, resulting in multiple arrests, including other alleged leaders such as alias Tavo, alias Andrés, alias Franklin, and alias Edicson.
Officials say alias Nías acted under orders from alias Alejo, the main leader of the organization, carrying out targeted killings against rival gang members.
The case now stands as one of Bogotá’s most significant gang crackdowns, with the arrest of alias Nías drawing attention both for the scale of his alleged crimes and the now-viral image of what he was wearing when police moved in.
