'House of the Dragon' broke all the records with its HBO premiere on Sunday. Over 10 million viewers tuned in across HBO platforms, surpassing all expectations. And now, HBO has given its nod for season 2!

HBO Executive Vice President for Programming, Francesca Orsi, informed the media that the company was extremely proud of what 'House of the Dragons' had accomplished. The series is a prequel to the ground-breaking HBO series, 'Game of Thrones'. The show is based on George R.R. Martin’s book 'Fire & Blood', a part of the internationally bestselling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' franchise.

'House of the Dragon' is set two centuries prior to the era of 'Game of Thrones', revolving around the House Targaryen, the house of the to be Khaleesi. The show's first season is spread across 10 episodes and is a product of years of efforts poured in by Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys and his team at HBO. As per a report, each episode of the show was made in under $20 million, in contrast to $100 million that every 'Game of Thrones' episode costed.

Like 'Game of Thrones', the show also features a massive cast, which includes Milly Alcock, Matt Smith, Emma Darcy, Paddy Considine and others. 'House of the Dragon' is co-created by Martin, Ryan Condal and Games of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik. Other executive producers include Vince Gerardis, Jocelyn Diaz, Sara Hess and Ron Schmidt. Warner Bros., Disney+ Hotstar, Sky Network and Bell Media distribute the HBO original series worldwide.

'Game of Thrones' is arguably the greatest television series of all time. The show was excellent in terms of VFX/animation, storytelling and cinematic brilliance for television. Banking on the show’s success, George R.R. Martin had indicated in late 2018 that a solid spin-off series could be made on 'Fire & Blood. Following House of the Dragon’s massive opening, HBO’s nod for the second season was expected.
