'Game of Thrones' actor Indira Varma to join 'Doctor Who' as 'The Duchess'

British actor of Indian origin, Indira Varma, is the latest renowned performer to join the cast of the BBC’s "Doctor Who". Varma, who is more known for her role as Ellaria Sand in HBO’s hit television series Game of Thrones than any other role, had previously appeared in Doctor Who spin-off titled Torchwood that ran from 2006–2011.

Indira Varma is slated to essay the role of The Duchess in Doctor Who, and she will reportedly get together with the 15th doctor, played by actor Ncuti Gatwa. Actor David Tennant reprised his 14th doctor in the Russell T Davies “regenerated” version of Doctor Who, for the BBC and Disney+.

Indira Varma said that she is "thrilled to be in Doctor Who” and “particularly excited to be crossing cosmic paths with Ncuti, as the Doctor”. She is looking forward to “creating interplanetary mischief with him,” said Varma.


About her earlier role in the Doctor Who spin-off, she said, “I loved playing Suzie Costello for Russell T Davies in Torchwood, so am thrilled to be entering this world again.”
