Full moon in New year 2024: Date, time of first full moon

New year 2024 is here and there will be a number of astronomical events. The celestial display will feature the radiance of 12 full Moons, a plethora of meteor showers, five eclipses, and four Super moons. January will witness the year's first full moon.

On January 3 to January 4, Quadrantid meteor shower will peak and as per NASA there will be dozens of meteors in every hour. On January 12, mercury will be visible before sunrise.

On January 25, there will be year's first full moon. Residents in the US can enjoy the celestial event on January 25 evening after sunset.


The last full moon of the year was seen on Boxing Day, December 26. This full moon was also referred to as the full Cold Moon. The moon was at its brightest at 7.33 pm (ET) on December 26. This was also the longest full moon of the year.

The year 2023 had 13 full moons in total. Among these lunar events, one of the high points was the occurrence of a blue moon on August 30. Four of the full moons in 2023 were supermoons -- the ones that came on on July 3, August 1, August 30, and September 29.
