Christmas will have a celestial gift in form of full moon on Boxing Day which is on December 26. The year's final full moon will be known as full Cold Moon, according to reports. The moon will be the brightest at 7.33 pm (ET) on December 26 and it will be Long Nights Moon.

In 2023, there were a total of 13 full moons, a result of the approximately 29.5-day lunar cycle aligning with the 365 days it takes for the Earth to complete one orbit around the Sun. Among these lunar events was the occurrence of a blue moon on August 30, signifying the second full moon within a single month.

Four of the full moons in 2023 were classified as supermoons, observed on July 3, August 1, August 30, and September 29. Supermoons take place when the moon is at its closest distance to the Earth.


During supermoons, the moon appears noticeably brighter and approximately 7 per cent larger than during regular full moons.
