Lorne Michaels, Saturday Night Live’s creator, spoke to a news agency regarding the sudden change in the cast of his show. He stated that the significant turnover resulted from the "pandemic". The show has eight of its comedians getting replaced in the forthcoming season, which will most probably premiere in October. He further added that Season 48, the most recent one, would be revamped and termed a year of reinvention.

In the same interview, he continued to explain that the comedians and other crew members did not want to quit the show because of the lack of jobs. Still, the show had come to a situation where the cast was more significant than the run time, and the actors were not getting enough time to play their parts.

Lorne Michael, the show's creator, also spoke out against the notion that the show was less rigid on Democratic issues than it was on Republican ones. She stated that Saturday Night Live’s previous seasons highlighted the period when people were somewhat sacred between the presidency and the pandemic.
