Why were Frisco ISD campuses placed on secure status?

Early Monday, Frisco ISD confirmed that multiple campuses had received threatening emails. Acting out of caution, district officials placed all locations into secure mode while police reviewed the situation. Frisco police said every school within city limits was checked as part of the response, as per a report by WFAA and Fox4News.

District officials emphasized that the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution.” By mid-morning, authorities said the threats were believed to be non-credible and that there was no danger to the public.

On Monday, the Frisco ISD placed all of its campuses under a modified "secure status" after the school district claimed that several campuses had received threatening emails, as per a report by NBCDFW.

What did “secure mode” mean for students and families?

While in secure mode, students remained in their classrooms and continued the school day as usual. Exterior doors were locked, and no one was allowed to enter or leave campus. According to a Frisco ISD social media post, this status was in effect as of 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12.

Students who had not yet arrived at school were asked to remain at home. Police officers, school resource officers, principals, and district administrators stayed on-site, conducting perimeter checks and monitoring campus safety, as per a report by WFAA and Fox4News.

Could parents pick up their children during the lockdown?

Frisco ISD said parents or guardians who wished to pick up their students were allowed to do so, though the process could take additional time due to the secure status. Only individuals listed on a student’s emergency contact list were permitted to pick up students, and families were instructed to bring photo identification and follow campus procedures.

In a statement, the district said, “The Frisco Police Department has reviewed the information and currently believes the threat to be non-credible.” Officials added that police and administrators would continue monitoring school facilities, as per a report by WFAA and Fox4News.

"Campus School Resource Officers and principals are conducting perimeter checks at each campus, and police and district administrators remain on-site to continue monitoring and securing school facilities."
