FragPunk: New 5v5 hero shooter game’s release date, platforms and gameplay

FragPunk is a 5v5 hero shooter launching in March 2025. The game combines familiar attack-and-defend gameplay with a twist involving Shard Cards.

Gameplay

FragPunk brings competitive team-based gameplay where players control heroes known as Lancers. It includes the attack-and-defend format popularized by other shooters. Each Lancer has specialized abilities.

Between rounds, players draw Shard Cards. These cards provide in-game modifiers. They may alter the weather, enhance mobility, stop healing for enemies, or allow unique respawn mechanics. These features aim to create unpredictable gameplay.

Release Date

The game will be released on March 6, 2025. FragPunk was announced during the Xbox Summer Games Showcase in June 2024. A closed alpha launched the same month, followed by a closed beta in October. The March release date was confirmed at the December Game Awards.

Platforms

FragPunk will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. There are no plans to release the game on PS4 or Xbox One. Most new titles, such as Black Ops 6 and EA FC 25, are moving away from older consoles.

Free-to-Play Model

FragPunk is free to play. The developers have confirmed that all Shard Cards will be accessible to players without any cost. While the game is free, it will offer microtransactions, including Battle Passes and cosmetic items like skins.

FragPunk supports crossplay between all platforms. Players can team up or compete against friends regardless of their console or PC choice.
