Four ways to capture screenshots on your MacBook

If you have any version of a modern Mac, you can take a screenshot in three primary ways. If you own a MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, there is an extra method to capture a screenshot. Besides, Apple's macOS provides several options to save, delete, and open a screenshot for markup.

Method 1 - Cmd-Shift-3

This is a keyboard shortcut that helps capture a screenshot of the entire screen.

Method 2 - Cmd-Shift-4

This keyboard shortcut turns your cursor into a crosshair, which you can drag to select a portion of the screen to capture. Once you release the mouse button or trackpad, the screenshot gets captured.

Method 3 - Cmd-Shift-5

This shortcut was introduced in macOS Mojave in 2018. It calls up a small panel at the bottom of the display with several screen capture options. It provides you with three screenshot buttons which you can use to capture the entire screen, a selection of your screen, or a window. With this shortcut, you also get two video-recording buttons to enable you to record your screen.

Method 4 - Cmd-Shift-6 (An extra way for Touch Bar MacBooks)

For an older 15-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro or a current 13-inch MacBook Pro, the keyboard shortcut of Cmd-Shift-6 takes a skinny and wide screenshot of your Touch Bar.
