Four University of Idaho students’ killing: Two surviving roommates break silence

The four University of Idaho students, who were stabbed to death at a Moscow off-campus residence last month, were mourned in an emotional memorial ceremony on Friday. For the first time after the homicide, two surviving roommates paid their respects through a written letter.

A local priest read the letter written by two surviving roommates, Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen that said that Kaylee, Maddie, Xana and Ethan were all one of a kind. Ethan and Xana were perfect for each other. With their everlasting love, they were a gift to this world, and nothing is the same without them.


According to authorities, the two surviving roommates were home and asleep when the killings occurred upstairs, perhaps between 3 am and 6 am.


Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin and Madison Mogen, four college students were killed in a gruesome quadruple homicide in the wee hours of November 13. The surviving roommates, who called 911 reporting an unconscious individual, have been ruled out as suspects.

Police have failed to identify a suspect, murder weapon, or plausible motive weeks after the deaths. Police think the attack was targeted but are clueless if one or more students, or the residence, were the target as there was no forced entry into the home.
