Bodies of four family members, including an eight-month-old baby, were found in an orchard in central California two days after they were kidnapped. While sharing the news with the media, Merced County Sheriff Verne Warnke stated that their "worst fears" had come true. However, the police officer did not say when and how they realised that the victims were killed. Warnke said that the victims' bodies were close to each other when they were found in a remote area by a farm worker.
The tragic news came to the public after authorities released a surveillance video of a man kidnapping the four victims. The four victims, kidnapped on October 3, were eight-month-old Aroohi Dheri, her father Jasdeep Singh (36), mother Jasleen Kaur (27), and uncle Amandeep Singh (39). The authorities stated that the grim crime was committed by a convicted robber, Jesus Salgado. According to the police, the 48-year-old accused tried to kill himself a day after kidnapping his victims. Warnke said that the kidnapper did not make any ransom demands.
