This Sunday, December 12, the Formula 1 season’s final race is set to decide the title fight between seven time world champion Lewis Hamilton and RebBull’s Max Verstappen.

Going into the final race of the season, both drivers are tied on 369.5 points each after a whole year with multiple ups and downs. As it stands, however, Max Verstappen is on top, having won more races than his rival.

Max Verstappen took the first of his nine wins this season at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy after both drivers spun and recovered, but Verstappen eventually triumphed and Hamilton came in second.

One of the few races that saw both the title contenders lose out. Verstappen was winning the race when his tyre blew out in the last few laps. The race then restarted but this time, Hamilton lost control and ended up finishing 15th. RedBull eventually won the race with other driver Sergio Perez.

At Lewis Hamilton’s home race in Silverstone, England, the title rivals made contact on the very first lap with Max Verstappen crashing out and Hamilton eventually winning the race, cutting down Max’s lead to seven points.

On the first lap of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas crashed into Lando Norris, taking out multiple drivers and damaging both RedBulls. Hamilton himself ended up last in the ensuing confusion and fought back to finish third and gain an eight point lead at the top.

One of the worst crashes in the title battle, the incident took place midway through the race. Hamilton came out of the pits alongside Verstappen and the ensuing scuffle saw both collide, with the rear of Verstappen's car landing on Hamilton's Mercedes. Both retired, beached in the gravel.

As both teams made it to the Brazil race, there were multiple wars of words with both teams filing complaints against each other. Hamilton ended up seeing a total 25 place grid penalty but still won the race, showcasing one of the best drives of the season.

Things came to a head at last week’s race at Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah circuit, with a chaotic race at a new track that saw two red flags and two safety cars that ended with the rivals crashing into each other in the last few laps but both recovered as Hamilton won and Max finished second to set up this week’s finale.
