Former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes may be released 2 years before completion of sentence

Former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes is most likely to come out of her Texas prison two years earlier than expected. She was sentenced for 11 years and three months in prison and was sent to Texas jail. But according to the website of the Bureau of Prisons, the expected date of her release is December 29, 2032. It is two years less than her complete sentence.

A spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons said that the jail inmates can earn Good Conduct Time, which is given 54 days for every year of sentence. He also said that the prisoners can earn GCT by other means after fulfilling certain conditions.

There are other factors like participation in various programs held in the jail. These facilities are given to prisoners in general and are not specific to Holmes. She is incarcerated in a minimum-security prison, about 100 miles away from Houston.

Holmes was the founder and CEO of her IT firm, based in Silicon Valley. Her fortune was estimated to be USD 9 billion. But Wall Street Journal reported that only about a dozen out of more than a thousand blood tests conducted through the kit developed by the company were found to be correct. It was also found that Theranos was dependent on the traditional kits developed by other companies, and not on its own technology.
