John Wood, currently, is the leading GOP lawyer of the select committee tasked with looking into the January 6 investigation about the US Capitol’s siege. He is the senior investigative counsel to Liz Cheney, the co-chair.
On the professional front, John Wood has an impressive resume having been an alumnus of the George W. Bush administration. In the early 1990s, Wood also worked for Jack Danforth. Wood has also acted as a clerk for prominent offices. These include Clarence Thomas, the US Supreme Court Justice, the Fourth Circuit Judge Michael Luttig in the US Court of Appeals, and John Ashcroft, the Attorney General in the Bush administration.
In a public appeal to John Wood, Jack Danforth stated that respected leaders across Missouri have clarified that voters deserve another choice for the leading contenders in the Democratic and Republican Senate nominations. He added that his team is urging Wood to answer the call as he has done earlier, innumerable times. Wood, however, did not comment on Danforth’s public appeal and chose to remain mum.
There are more than three dozen contenders for Missouri’s open seat on which primary elections will be held on August 2. The current list of GOP candidates includes names like Governor Eric Greitens, two Republic representatives, Billy Long and Vicky Hartzler, Eric Schmitt, the State Attorney General, and the first-timer, Trudy Busch Valentine. The winning candidate would serve office with Josh Hawley, who might contend for the presidential post in 2024.
The process of recruiting Wood would be long and time-consuming. Wood would have to register himself formally with the Federal Election Commission. He would also have to collect the minimum signatures for contending as a third-party candidate on the November ballot.
