Valentino Luchin, 62, is a former executive chef at the famous Italian restaurant Rose Pistola in San Francisco, as per the San Francisco Police Department. He allegedly robbed three banks in San Francisco by handing handwritten letters to tellers asking for money.

Around 12 pm, police were called to a bank robbery in Chinatown near Grant Avenue. When police arrived, a teller said the suspect gave her a letter demanding cash, and she gave him money because she was afraid for her safety, as per the report by Hindustan Times.

Bank robbery investigation

After receiving the money in a bag, the suspect ran away from the bank. Authorities did not reveal how much he stole. The city’s Robbery Unit investigated and quickly recognized Luchin as the alleged bank robber. Police noticed that the suspect’s description and robbery style matched two other bank robberies in the Central District on the same day.

Community tips and SFPD “ambassadors” program participants helped police identify Luchin as the alleged thief. Police officially stated, “Officers determined that the suspect who committed these robberies was Luchin.” Authorities made a strategic plan and captured Luchin without any further incident, as stated by the reports.

Arrest and charges

Luchin was arrested and taken to San Francisco County Jail, for two bank robberies and one attempted robbery. Official charges are still pending. Luchin is also a Walnut Creek chef and former owner of Ottavio, a restaurant that closed permanently in 2016, as stated by Hindustan Times.

He had a previous bank robbery charge. In 2018, the East Bay Times reported that Luchin was arrested for stealing $18,000 from a Citibank in Orinda, California, as reported by East Bay Times.
