Jose Aldo, a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champ, has decided to call it quits after a legendary run. The 36-year-old World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight champion requested a release from his UFC contract. Aldo's coach and manager, Andre Pederneiras, told ESPN that Aldo's request was granted.

At 145 pounds, Aldo owns the best résumé in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).


Even though Jose has retired, it doesn't mean he has been relieved of his UFC contract. The UFC has removed him from the external official rankings, and he's no longer a part of the active roster.

Legendary fighter's contract status

Although Andre Pederneiras, Aldo's coach and manager, said that Aldo was granted release from his UFC contract as per his request, the UFC is yet to announce the fighter's contract status.
