Former Chiefs coach Britt Reid jailed for three years over 2021 drunk driving crash
Ex-Chiefs coach Britt Reid pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, speeding, and colliding with two standing vehicles, all of which resulted in serious brain injury of a 5-year-old.

The verdict against Britt Reid, which was made public on Tuesday, is in line with the plea bargain the former Chiefs coach made with the prosecution, which stipulated a maximum jail term of four years. The maximum punishment for the charges was seven years in prison.
At roughly 84 mph in a 65-mph zone on February 4, 2021, only days before the Chiefs had been scheduled to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl, Britt Reid's Dodge Ram truck hit two parked cars on a ramp to Interstate 435, which is close to Arrowhead Stadium.
One of the five people injured in the event was Ariel Young. Her parents have said that she has been forever changed as a result of the catastrophic brain injury she suffered. Ariel Young’s health has improved since the accident, but she still drags one foot when walking, struggles with balance, and needs to wear heavy eyeglasses. Tom Porto, the family's attorney, publicly criticised Britt Reid's plea agreement.
Ariel Young's family and The Chiefs came to a confidential agreement last year to pay for Ariel Young’s continued medical care as well as other costs. The girl’s mother, Felicia Miller, delivered a victim impact statement into the record, stating that the crash's victims were upset by Britt Reid's request for probation and refused to accept his sincere apologies. The former Chief’s coach completed a Pennsylvania drug rehab programme in 2009.
