Former American Idol participant CJ Harris passes away at 31

CJ Harris, the former contestant of American Idol rose to fame in Season 13 of the competition and left judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr awestruck with his talent.

CJ Harris, the former American Idol star, passed away at the age of 31 on Sunday. He participated in the singing competition in 2014. On January 15, as per reports, Harris was taken to hospital following an apparent heart attack in Alabama. However, he was later pronounced after he was taken in for treatment.

CJ Harris rose to fame in Season 13 of the competition and left judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr awestruck with his talent. During his audition that took place in Salt Lake City, Harris sang a cover version of Allman Brothers Band’s ‘Soulshine’ and said that his rendition was dedicated to his father.

He was then part of the next round and at the time, American Idol judge and pop star Jennifer Lopez had said that she “really liked” his performance. Even Connick agreed by saying that there was something about the “entirety” of Harris while adding that “it’s really a vibe” that Harris had which was “pleasant”. Moreover, Urban noted that Harris sang because he has to, and not because he wanted to. Urban added that he meant his remark in the “deepest way”. ‘I just believed it’, the judge had also added.



How far did CJ Harris go in American Idol Season 13?

CJ Harris stayed in the show for a long time and made it to the final top 6 in American Idol Season 13 before being eliminated. That season was won by Caleb Johnson. During the course of the singing competition, CJ Harris had opened up about how it was a priority for him to spend time with his son, Jordan who was behind putting American Idol in Harris’ vision. Jordan was two years old at the time when Harris told People Magazine that it helped the singer “a lot” to spend time with his son.

Following the show, Harris reportedly kept a low profile but he continued singing. He used to share his videos performing original songs and covers on social media. His most recent post was on Instagram, in which he can be seen performing with his guitar on stage in Alabama.
