Football icon Pele to stay hospitalised over Christmas for cancer treatment

Pele, a legendary player in Brazilian football, is expected to spend Christmas in the hospital, according to the doctors who examined him on Thursday. Pele's condition has been declining.

The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo issued a statement saying that Pele needed specialist care for his liver and heart.

Pele has been a patient at the hospital ever since November 29, 2021, after a diagnosis of colon cancer in September 2021, he was admitted.

On Instagram, his daughter Kely Nascimento said that the Christmas celebration that was supposed to be held with the family would have to be delayed.


After the chemotherapy stopped working early in December, there were rumors that he was getting end-of-life care. Pele won the 1958 World Cup as a youngster when Brazil beat Sweden in the finals.
