According to Fieri, he “slipped down a set of steps” during production, causing his legs to split in opposite directions. He described that during the fall, “one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold,” a movement that led to quadriceps muscle tearing “in half.”
Doctors stated that the injury was highly unusual. The damage happened in the “biggest, thickest” portion of the muscle, a region where tears almost never happen.
Fieri remembered the moment in detail during his interview with Fox News Digital, stating:
“[I] slipped down a set of steps and one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold… it extended me out. I looked like I was probably doing the splits, but when my right leg compressed into itself… the doctor said he’s never seen — you know, in 20 years, he hasn’t seen a tear in the biggest, thickest part of your quad in half. Yeah, it sucked.”
He further said, “You normally tear that muscle at your tendon or the tendon tears off the bone, but this was right in the center of the whole quad muscle and it exploded.”
Rushed Into Emergency Surgery
To prevent the torn muscle from contracting and “recede,” he was “rushed to surgery” quickly following the accident. The process was required to stabilize the injury and start the long healing process.Fieri shared that the timing of the situation was chaotic:
“So, right in the middle of filming that and we’ve got everybody in town and all the chefs there and 125 people on set and everybody’s ready to go and I’m in surgery.”
Wheelchair Bound and Facing Weeks Off His Feet
The chef disclosed that doctors anticipate him to avoid putting weight on the injured leg for at least eight weeks.“Eight weeks of no weight on it, crutches and a cast, and then the rehab, which to me, I want to get after it as fast as possible… ‘You’re going to really have to go through [it].’”
“We figured out how to pivot through it and to have some creative filming techniques. But it’s been a run,” he described, stating that production has adjusted so he can remain participating while recovering.
He mentioned that he is currently resting at his ranch:
