Florida TV journalist shot dead while reporting at the murder scene, suspect arrested

A Florida TV reporter and a nine-year-old girl were shot dead near Orlando, Florida while reporting at the scene of a murder that had taken place just hours earlier. Two Spectrum News 13 journalists were covering the killing of a 20-year-old woman in the same area that morning. The reporter and the nine-year-old girl’s mother were also shot and injured by the same gunman, who is also a suspect in another homicide, police have said.

At the time of reporting by the journalists, the suspect returned but it is unclear if they were targeted. As per media reports, investigators said that the 19-year-old suspect was armed and was non-cooperative with police at the time of his arrest.




None of the total three victims of a fatal shooting on Wednesday in Pine Hills has been identified. Pine Hills is a suburb west of Orlando. During a news conference, Orange County Sheriff John Mina said that the journalists were “in or near their vehicle”. He also said that the vehicle did not look like a TV station’s official vehicle. The attack took place at 10 pm GMT or 4 pm local time.

He said that the journalists were reporting the shooting that took place earlier that day around 11 am local time when a 20-year-old woman was fatally shot inside a car. Later, the suspect returned and opened fire again at the crime scene. The alleged gunman, Keith Moses, first shot the TV journalist and then shot the nine-year-old girl and her mother, who was in hospital in critical condition. Spectrum 13 continued its live coverage after the death of its reporter.
