The administration stated that they would prioritize procuring large amounts of funding from American Rescue Plan funds amounting to billions. They will use this money to support classrooms and schools and help with the academic and mental needs of families, educators, and children. Miguel Cardona is the Secretary of Education and stated that they would evaluate and monitor the recently passed law to ensure that it does not violate any federal civil rights.

He also stated that his Civil Rights Office would accept any complaints regarding discrimination against any student from any parent or student, including harassment. Any parent or child believing that they are experiencing discrimination can file a complaint.

The Secretary stated that DeSantis attempted to target the most vulnerable students of Florida and that his bill is a part of a dangerous and disturbing trend. The Director of Communications at the White House, Kete Bedingfield, stated that the Education Department would also monitor the law and its implementation to evaluate and ensure that it does not violate any federal civil rights. She also stated that she would be coming back with more information as soon as she had some.

Monday saw the law being passed by DeSantis and stated that parents have the right and should be involved. The bill that was approved by the state legislature controlled by the Republicans in March has been called the "Don't Say Gay" bill. The Democrats claim that it bans discussions in Florida schools that are related to being gay.

The US President called the bill a hateful bill when he tweeted it in February. The bill prohibits gender identity and sexual orientation discussions with students in grade three or younger. This would be done so that it does not affect any child's development in the elementary stages.

The bill apparently does not ban the word "gay."
