The Republican congressman who was present at the hearing through video conference from his residence in Florida alleged that Democrats are conspiring to take away Americans' constitutional rights to bear arms by restricting ammunition they are allowed to use.
Steube said that they are trying to fool everyone that they are attempting to take away your ability to purchase handguns. He further added that they are making use of the magazine ban to do it.
The congressman claimed that the Sig Sauer P365 XL he owns consists of a 15-round magazine. This would be banned if the law "Protecting Our Kids Act" which is endorsed by the Democrats passes. He added that the Glock 19 would be banned as well.
The congressman then also displayed his Sig Sauer 320 and Sig Sauer P226.
Weapons were displayed at the legislative hearing, which was packed with partisan and personal attacks over an issue that has deeply divided Americans. This display added to the tension of the hearing.
Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democratic representative from Texas, cut into Steube's speech during his demonstration of firearms.
She commented that she hoped the gun was not loaded.
Steube sharply remarked that he is at his home and he can do whatever he wants with his guns.
Swalwell, a Democrat from California, also criticized the congressman. He said that this is who Republicans are. He commented that while they are discussing about gun safety, kids were being buried and gun owners were bragging about how many guns they owned. They are not serious and are dangerous for our kids.
