The Dayton police have stated that the public ought to be safe during the impending winter storm and have issued the possible dangers and how to stay safe. The weather is expected to bring in extremely cold temperatures and strong wind gusts, thus making it necessary to issue a storm alert. The Dayton Police department requests the public to follow these tips to stay safe amidst the storm:

  • Not to use open flames or any cooking utensils like an oven, stove etc., to heat their residences
  • Not to use propane/charcoal grills to provide heat inside their residences
  • To install/ have properly functional smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
  • To ensure the safe use of space/kerosene heaters by having a minimum 3 feet of clearance around the devices
  • Ensure the generators are placed in aptly ventilated areas outside with a minimum of 5 feet of clearance around the device vents and openings and that the exhaust pipe is pointed away from the residence
