A first-generation iPhone, still sealed in its box, was sold at an auction for $63,356.40, which is over 100 times its original price. The iPhone from 2007, was sold on LCG Auctions and was expected to fetch $50,000. However, it exceeded the estimate by over $13,000.
The phone was sold on Sunday, February 19, after 27 bids. The bidding for the 2007 phone started at $2,500. The original owner of the first-generation iPhone, Karen Green received it as a gift and had it appraised in 2019 since it was an 8GB, not 4GB, and was also in the original packing. It was initially estimated to have a worth of $5,000.
In 2007, she received the iPhone as a gift from her friends upon landing a new job. Because she had already gotten a new phone, Green did not open it. As per reports, she said that she did not want to get rid of my phone and she figured, ‘It’s an iPhone, so it will never go out of date’. It is estimated that the phone was bought for $499 to $599.
