Fire in children's clothing section of Buena Park Target store; shoppers evacuated

A sudden blaze at a Buena Park Target store led to the evacuation when the fire erupted in the children's clothing section.

This incident occurred at approximately 7 PM on a Tuesday at the Target store situated at the intersection of Orangethorpe and Western avenues.

No injuries have been reported so far.




The exact cause of the fire remains undisclosed pending further investigation, Eyewitness footage has captured the initial ignition of flames, which swiftly spread from a few clothing items, ascending to reach the ceiling and impacting surrounding merchandise.


The store's employees acted swiftly and decisively, with one individual employing a fire extinguisher to manage the blaze. Fortunately, the store's automatic sprinkler system activated as well, aiding in the suppression of the flames. Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) firefighters subsequently arrived at the scene, finding the fire already subdued; however, the store interior was shrouded in a dense smoky haze, as confirmed by OCFA battalion chief Erik Miranda.

In response to the emergency, store management initiated the immediate evacuation of shoppers who had been present during the incident.

Guillermo Santander and his daughter initially mistook the flames for part of a Halloween-themed display and became increasingly alarmed as the store's sprinkler system activated and the fire escalated.

The children's clothing section bore damage from both fire and water, necessitating cleanup procedures and a temporary closure of the affected area. Authorities are diligently pursuing their investigation to uncover the precise origins of the fire, which disrupted the usual shopping experience for Buena Park residents.
