Filipino American R'Bonney Gabriel wins Miss USA 2022 title. See details

R'Bonney Gabriel, Miss Texas, has been crowned Miss USA 2022. In a ceremony held on Monday night at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, former Miss USA 2021 Elle Smith graciously passed the crown to Gabriel. It was the first time an Asian American woman won the Miss USA title. This was also the first time a Filipino American held it.

In addition to winning the Miss USA 2022 Costume Show on Sunday, the 28-year-old also wrote on Instagram just before the competition: "I was delighted to learn that Miss USA had a state costume component and knew I wanted to dress as the state flower of Texas, a bluebonnet, but in a glamorous way."




Gabriel, a fashion designer, designed her winning costume and outfit during her Miss USA interview. She says on her journey at these pageants, she has always believed in the value of embracing one's true self. Born to a Filipino dad and an American mum in Texas, Gabriel is a fashion designer, who runs her own label, R'Bonney Nola.

As it was the same venue where Cheslie Kryst was crowned Miss USA in 2019, this year's pageant also paid tribute to her, who died by suicide in January.
