FIFA World Cup 2022 awards: List of all FIFA prizes, winners include Messi, Mbappe, and England

Winners of the FIFA World Cup in 2022 Argentina topped the individual honours board at the conclusion of the final on Sunday, December 18 in Lusail.

After winning the Player of the Match award in the final, Lionel Messi nonchalantly went back out to accept the Golden Ball trophy, appropriately voted the tournament's greatest player – an honor he previously got when Argentina won the Copa America in 2021.

Kylian Mbappe was awarded the Golden Boot as the top scorer in the finals for his brutal hat-trick in the final.

FIFA honours during the World Cup in 2022


FIFA presented seven more prizes following the final, five of which were determined by the FIFA technical committee and via a FIFA-held fan vote.

FIFA announced the Golden Boot, Golden Ball, Golden Glove, FIFA Young Player, and FIFA Fair Play Trophy, with supporters having a crucial role in picking the Goal of the Tournament and Most Entertaining Team.

The Golden Boot (FIFA Award)
The major criteria for this award are the most goals scored by a player in a World Cup, with a secondary tiebreaker of the player with the most assists receiving the trophy in the case of a tie, followed by minutes played.

Mbappe and Messi were tied on five goals going into the final, but the France striker outscored his PSG colleague to finish one goal ahead on eight.

The Golden Ball (FIFA Award)

This award is determined by a FIFA committee shortlist of players, with the winners chosen by FIFA-accredited journalists at the event. After his exploits, Messi was the obvious pick.

The Golden Glove (FIFA Award)

This award is presented to the best goalkeeper in the competition as determined by FIFA, with clean sheets being the primary focus.

Martinez, of Aston Villa, preserved three clean sheets and was one of the heroes of Argentina's shootout victories against the Netherlands in the semifinals and France in the final to win the championship.
