Barcelona returned to winning ways in Europe with a commanding 6-1 victory over Olympiacos on Tuesday at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, temporarily moving back into the top eight of the Champions League league phase standings.

Fermín López scored a hat trick and Marcus Rashford hit two goals as Barcelona routed Olympiacos 6-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday. It was López's first hat trick of his career and the first by a Spaniard for Barcelona in the Champions League.

Fermín López opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, firing in a rebound to give Barcelona the lead. The Spanish midfielder then doubled Barcelona's advantage in the 31st minute when Pedro Fernandez found him inside the box, and López beat the Olympiacos goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Lamine Yamal converted a penalty in the 72nd minute to make it 6-0, capping off a dominant Barcelona performance.

Olympiacos grab late consolation goal

Olympiacos managed a consolation goal late in the match to make the final score 6-1, preventing Barcelona from securing a clean sheet but doing little to dampen the hosts' comprehensive victory.

Champions League standings implications

The victory moved Barcelona temporarily back into the top eight of the Champions League league phase standings. The new format sees the top eight teams advance directly to the round of 16, while teams finishing ninth through 24th enter a playoff round.

Barcelona's dominant performance demonstrated their attacking prowess and ability to bounce back after previous setbacks in European competition. The Catalans will look to build on this momentum as they continue their Champions League campaign.

Match statistics and player performances

Fermín López's hat-trick marked a breakthrough performance for the young midfielder, earning him man of the match honors. His ability to find space in the box and clinical finishing proved too much for the Olympiacos defense.

Marcus Rashford's brace continued his strong form for Barcelona, while Lamine Yamal's penalty conversion added to his growing reputation as one of Europe's most promising young talents.
