The US Secret Service has uncovered a suspicious hunting stand with a direct line of sight to the area where President Donald Trump exits Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport, reports Fox News Digital, citing officials. The hunting stand is reported to have been set up “months ago.”

Air Force One doesn't typically park in the area, but because of recent construction and past usage, it will be parked there, according to officials quoted by NBC. Trump is spending the weekend in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he frequently visits his Mar-a-Lago resort to play golf. He arrived in Florida on Friday.

The FBI has launched an investigation into the discovery, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on Sunday, October 19.

Discovery during security sweep

Secret Service officials reportedly made the discovery last week while conducting “advanced security preparations” ahead of Trump’s arrival in Palm Beach, which included a routine security sweep, reports Axios, citing the agency.

“Prior to the President's return to West Palm Beach, USSS discovered what appeared to be an elevated hunting stand within sight line of the Air Force One landing zone,” Patel said in a statement to Fox News.

“There was no impact to any movements, and no individuals were present or involved at the location,” the outlet quotes, citing USSS spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi.

The president has been threatened multiple times in the last two years, beginning during the campaign and continuing after he was elected to a second term.

Palm beach Golf Course incident

The discovery comes just weeks after Ryan Routh was found guilty of attempting to assassinate Trump on a Palm Beach golf course. Routh, 59, reportedly set up a sniper’s nest in bushes along a fence line near the course. He was charged on five federal counts, including attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and multiple firearms offenses.

Assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania

On July 13, 2024, Trump was targeted at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman fired multiple shots from a rooftop. Trump was struck in the ear but was quickly protected by Secret Service agents. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed at the scene and appeared to have acted alone, with no clear political motive.
