FBI director confirms Halloween weekend terror plot in Michigan was stopped

The FBI stopped a possible terrorist attack that was being planned in Michigan over Halloween weekend, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. Patel shared the news early Friday morning on X, saying, “This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend. More details to come.”

He also thanked law enforcement, writing, “Thanks to the men and women of FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland.” The FBI’s Detroit field office later confirmed that agents were active in Dearborn and Inkster, two cities in Michigan, on Friday morning.

FBI operations in Dearborn and Inkster

FBI spokesperson Jordan Hall told CNN, “The FBI in Michigan were present in the cities of Dearborn and Inkster this morning conducting law enforcement activities. There is no current threat to public safety.” The FBI’s operations were known to the Dearborn Police Department, with the local police not sharing much about them either.

No threat to public, investigation continues

The police department assured residents there was no threat to the community, saying, “We want to assure our residents that there is no threat to the community at this time.”So far, neither the FBI nor the Dearborn Police have confirmed if the FBI operations in those cities are directly linked to the arrests that Patel mentioned in his post.
