'Father of the Bride' actress Gloria Estefan recalls how her dog ate her wedding dress 40 years back

The mayhem in matrimony looks like it has been taken from a comedy wedding film, and it justifies her role in the comedy remake of "Father of the Bride." Steve Martin's role in the 1991 version of the movie showed how he dealt with the wedding of his eldest daughter, and the newer film showed how Billy Herrera grappled with his daughter's surprise engagement and him being stuck in a tricky situation with a divorce.

It is the first time the superstar (Estefan) will star in a lead role. She explained how she did not have to give any audition for the role and that Andy told her that her casting was a no-brainer as he trusted her.

She recalls how she and her lover did not plan any party for the marriage due to her father's illness, but their friends arranged a party for the newlyweds and surprised them with a full-blown surprise wedding with 200 guests, a DJ, and catering.


She reminisces how she took off for the washroom to clean up her wedding dress smeared with cake, just as her wedding song was being announced. The funny incident happened when the song was announced, and she shouted how she was naked in the washroom, cleaning her dress. As soon as she came out of the washroom, her cocker spaniel was very interested in the cake on her sleeve and started eating it.

She remembers how she and her husband stayed at a hotel that night and drank champagne with friends before boarding a flight to Japan at 6 in the morning. She says that it could've been a movie.
