Who Was Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam?
Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam rose from humble beginnings to become one of India's most respected scientists and leaders.Despite growing up in financial hardship, Kalam remained dedicated to his education and earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology. He began his career at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) before joining the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), where he played a leading role in developing India's first indigenous satellite launch vehicle, SLV-III, which successfully placed the Rohini satellite into orbit in 1980.
Returning to DRDO, Kalam led the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, overseeing the development of important missile systems such as Agni and Prithvi. His leadership in India's missile and nuclear programs earned him the title "Missile Man of India."
From 2002 to 2007, he served as the 11th President of India. Loved for his humility, simplicity, and deep connection with students, he became widely known as the "People's President."
