Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been charged with felony battery following a violent altercation in downtown Indianapolis. The incident, which occurred in an alley behind Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery, left Sanchez hospitalized with multiple stab wounds and has since led to a civil lawsuit filed against him by the alleged victim, 69-year-old Perry Tole. Tole stated that "faith guided my hands" as he defended himself from what he perceived as an imminent threat.

According to the New York Post, Tole's longtime friend, Gregg Keesling, described him as a gentle and non-confrontational individual. Keesling emphasized that Tole had never been involved in a fight before, underscoring the gravity of the situation. "Perry doesn't fight. In fact, I think this is probably the first fight that Perry's ever been in in his entire life," Keesling remarked.

The altercation unfolded when Sanchez, reportedly acting erratically and smelling of alcohol, approached Tole's truck in a hotel alley. Surveillance footage shows Sanchez entering the vehicle without permission, leading to a physical confrontation. Fearing for his safety, Tole used pepper spray on Sanchez. When Sanchez continued to advance, Tole, feeling his life was in danger, pulled a knife and stabbed Sanchez two to three times in the chest, “This guy is trying to kill me.”

Sanchez was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds and later charged with felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury, along with several misdemeanor counts, including public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Tole has filed a civil lawsuit against Sanchez and Fox Corporation, alleging that the altercation caused him permanent disfigurement, loss of function, emotional distress, and other damages.
