F1 legend Max Verstappen has made headlines for his determination to win every race for Red Bull. Now, the Formula 1 driver’s opinion on sim racing has catapulted him into the limelight.

Verstappen believes that sim racing may be even harder than real-life F1 driving. The Dutchman in a recent interview shared that he got into the habit of virtual racing as a fun pastime, but later grew serious about it.

Max Verstappen on F1 and sims racing

The F1 World Champion, in an interview with The Athletic, said that he started spending time on simulatory racing as a fun activity to do with friends. He later realised that virtual racing was very exciting and he wanted to try and be good at it.

The Dutchman stated that while everyone believes sim racing to be easy, the competition is equally tough or even harder to win compared to real life races.

Verstappen’s opinion puts him in the league of drivers like Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Alex Albon. The Dutchman owns a majority stake in a sim racing team called Team Redline. When he is not winning races on track, the Red Bull driver is busy winning virtual ones.

Max Verstappen’s F1 Championship 2025 chances

The driver has won the World Championship four consecutive times from 2021. But his chances to make it a streak of five years are slim, according to former teammate Christian Klien. The former Red Bull driver believes that Verstappen and his team are still leading, but have lost much of their edge.

Speaking on the Business of Winning podcast, Klein added that Red Bull will have to really fight for their chances this year considering the stiff competition from McLaren. However, Verstappen could be the ace for Red Bull, with his never-give-up attitude, according to Klein. This could lead Red Bull to another win.

F1 racer George Russell on Max Verstappen

The Mercedes driver had a row with Verstappen last season and seems to be in no mood to forgive and forget things. George Russell has claimed that he has “no intention” of talking to the Red Bull racer and has lost respect for him, the BBC reported.

The Briton did not mince words on his dispute with Verstappen at the Qatar Grand Prix last year and said that the Red Bull racer “cannot deal with adversity".
