F1 Japanese Grand Prix: Jules Bianchi's father lashes out at FIA after Pierre Gasly incident

Sunday’s Grand Prix at the Silverstone racing circuit got off to a terrifying start with three drivers going out in the initial laps.

Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu was involved in a terrifying crash, with his Alfa Romeo flipping into the barriers after he was involved in a scrap with other drivers on the first lap.

Williams driver Allex Albon was one of the drivers involved in the opening lap scuffle, spinning out after contact with Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin

The third driver to tap out of the race in the opening lap, the Mercedes driver’s home race ended in heartbreak after one of the Alpha Tauris crashed into the back of his car.

Having taken the pole on Saturday, it was likely to be a win for Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, but F1 is rarely that straightforward, with the Spanish driver having to work for his win, fighting off teammate Charles Leclerc and seven-time champ Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was back on the podium at Silverstone, notching up his 13th at the circuit. He put up an impressive fight in a slower car to hold on to the 3rd place under heavy competition from Leclerc, Alonso and Perez.

Red Bull Racing's Sergio Perez ended up on the podium, clinching second place after falling down to 16th and battling multiple world champions on the way back up.

Both Haas drivers finished in the points, with young Mick Schumacher scoring his first points in Formula 1 after finishing eighth. Teammate Kevin Magnussen finished in tenth place.

Defending champion Max Verstappen saw his race go from brilliant to bad in the span of a few laps. Having taken the lead at the start, the Dutch driver looked unstoppable before he hit debris on track that knocked his car off balance. He eventually finished in seventh place. He continues to lead the championship despite the setback.
