Explosive report alleges Donald Trump struck stunning deal with El Chapo’s cartel, allowing the kingpin’s family into the U.S. without the Mexican president’s knowledge

Trump secretly let 17 family members of a famous Mexican drug lord into the U.S. after a deal with his son, Ovidio, shocking Mexico. The cartel is linked to fentanyl, and Ovidio now awaits trial in U.S. jail.

Nearly 20 family members of El Chapo, the famous Mexican drug lord, recently entered the United States.

This was possible because of a secret deal between the Trump administration and El Chapo’s son, Ovidio Guzman Lopez, as reported by AP News.

Let's see what the deal was all about, so Ovidio Guzman Lopez is one of the main leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, a powerful and dangerous drug gang from Mexico.

The U.S. and Mexican governments both call the cartel a foreign terrorist organization. The Trump administration made a deal that let 17 of El Chapo and Ovidio's family members cross the border from Tijuana into San Diego.

Mexican Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch confirmed this and said the group wasn’t wanted by Mexican police. One of the family members who crossed over is Griselda Lopez Perez, El Chapo’s ex-wife, as per Luis Chaparro, an independent journalist.

The family walked to U.S. border agents and showed up with suitcases, and according to the Spanish news outlet Radio Formula, they were carrying around $70,000 in cash. The U.S. agents were waiting for them at the border.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she couldn’t believe it when she heard the news. Mexico has asked Trump to explain the deal and give info to their prosecutors, but the U.S. hasn’t shared anything yet. The Daily Beast reached out to Trump’s team for a comment but got no reply.

Background of Ovidio Guzman Lopez

Ovidio is 35 years old and is known as “The Mouse.” He and his brothers are called “Los Chapitos”, a nickname that comes from their father El Chapo.

After their father was sent to prison, Los Chapitos rebuilt the cartel, making billions by selling drugs like fentanyl in the U.S.

Ovidio was first arrested in 2019, but was let go after cartel gunmen attacked civilians to free him. He was captured again in 2023 during a big operation that caused 30 deaths.

He was extradited to the U.S. that year and is now in jail awaiting trial. He says he’s not guilty for now, but he’s set to be back in court in July 2025 and there’s a chance he might change his mind then.

On the very day that Mexico certified the family’s entry, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office said they were charging top cartel members with “narcoterrorism” for the first time ever.

This is part of a bigger crackdown that started when Trump called these cartels terrorist groups. U.S. California attorney Adam Gordon didn’t hold back.

He said, “You’re not the hunters anymore, you’re the hunted. Your friends will turn on you, your enemies won’t stop chasing you, and you’ll end up in a courtroom here in Southern California.”

Now El Chapo is serving a life sentence, with no parole in a Colorado jail. He was arrested and put to the U.S. in 2017, then sentenced in 2019 for drug trafficking and other crimes.
