American actor Andrew Garfield has opened up about his preparations for his 2016 film Silence, revealing he hasn't fasted or had sex in six months. During an appearance on Monday's WTF on Marc Maron's podcast, the 39-year-old star Under the Banner of Heaven shared his thoughts about his life, including his struggles to adapt to the role of a 17th-century Jesuit. said about the acting process of "Silence".
Andrew Garfield's preparation for the role included participation in Ignatius' spiritual exercises, a series of prayers and meditations developed by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, and Restrictions on his food and sexual consumption.
Every day he performed a series of spiritual exercises and created new rituals for himself. He and his co-star Adam Driver had to lose so much weight that he abstained during his six months, fasting heavily.
Andrew Garfield revealed how there were all these spiritual practices that they had to do while praying, meditating, and having all the intentions they had as the characters they were portraying. According to Garfield, fasting provided a different, distinctive insight into their actions.

A few months back, Garfield also spoke to some popular media platforms about taking a break from acting following his latest project. He was excited to take a little time, especially after so many performances, delivering so much work in the world, and putting so much energy into something he was so passionate about that it was necessary.
He felt it, but he needed to refill the well to continue like the real thing and be committed to it.
