Ex-White House Deputy Chief of Staff Tony Ornato to be interviewed by January 6 House committee

According to two sources familiar with the panel's work, the selected committee that is investigating the January 6 riot will interview former White House deputy chief of staff Tony Ornato.

Cassidy Hutchinson, Former Trump aide, testified in June that Tony Ornato, who returned with his post much after Trump had left the office and retired a little earlier this year, informed her the former president screamed and lunged at a member of his protective detail on 6 January as he demanded to be taken to the Capitol. The virtual interview on Tuesday is Ornato's first meeting with the committee after the testimony of Hutchinson. Ornato met the panel twice before his scheduled interview on Tuesdays in January and March.

Cassidy Hutchinson claimed that Ornato informed her that when Trump was told he couldn't travel to the Capitol after his address at the White House Ellipse on 6 January, he rushed to the motorcade's agent, Robert Engel, and yelled something to the effect that he was the effing president.

‘Take him to the Capitol now’.

The then president reached out and held the steering wheel at the front of the car. Engel grabbed his arm and said he must remove his hand from the steering wheel. And they were returning to the West Wing. We won't be heading to the Capitol. Hutchinson stated that Mr Trump lunged at Bobby Engel with his free hand.

Hutchinson's deposition of Ornato's account of the incident, given under oath during the committee's public hearing on 28 June, has become a critical event in the timeline of Trump's travels on 6 January. The panel interrogated Engel for the first time after Hutchinson's public statement on 17 November.
