Ex-NBC anchor Katie Couric said that she felt "lucky" that her breast cancer was detected early. Couric was diagnosed with breast cancer in June this year.

On the 'TODAY' show on October 3, the anchor said that she was feeling well after completing 15 days of radiation. She said that she finished radiation last week and was feeling great. Couric stated that she was initially shocked after learning about her diagnosis but was relieved that her breast cancer was detected early at stage 1A. Couric said that her doctor told her that it was treatable but they needed a plan. The 65-year-old added that she was "nervous" while sharing the news with her daughters, Carrie and Ellie.
Couric was diagnosed with breast cancer on her eighth wedding anniversary. It also reminded the NBC anchor of her family members, who have been diagnosed with the disease. Couric's first husband, Jay Monahan, was also diagnosed with colon cancer. Monahan died in 1998 at the age of 42.
While advising other women to take precautions, Couric said that women with denser breasts have a higher risk of cancer. She also suggested that every woman should have an annual mammogram.
