Ex-detective drops ‘5 Suspect’ theory in Nancy Guthrie case, lists shocking new details

The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, remains to puzzle investigators weeks after she was taken from her Tucson, Arizona home. With no arrests and no named suspects so far, the case continues to be increasingly troubling and complex. Authorities believe Nancy was kidnapped in the early hours of February 1. Since then, investigators have retraced her final known movements, that includes a visit to the earlier evening when she went to her daughter Annie.

Police analyzed footage from her Uber ride but determined it had "nothing of substance," citing it appeared to be “just a regular pick up and drop off.” She had arrived back to her residence before 10 p.m. after being dropped off by Tommaso Cioni, as per the Crime Stories with Nancy Grace.

Disturbing Footage Deepens Mystery

One of the most significant pieces of evidence comes from security video captured at Nancy’s home. The video features a masked and armed individual coming near her front door on the night she disappeared. The same person also appeared to be trying to interfere with a camera placed near the entrance.

Online, the suspect has been with the nickname “porch guy,” after being captured on a Google Nest doorbell camera. The footage indicates a level of preparation that has raised critical concerns among investigators and analysts.

Expert Believes It Was Not a Solo Act

Kurt Dabb, a retired homicide detective from Pima County, has examined details of the case and believes the crime needed more than one perpetrator.

“I believe there are anywhere between two to four accomplices,” Dabb told Parade. “The logistics of something of this magnitude is too much for one person to handle in my professional opinion based on the facts as I know them right now.”

His perspectives on coordination and planning that would be challenging for a single individual to do it alone.

Evidence Suggests Prior Planning

Dabb also indicated that those accountable may have scoped out the property in advance.

"It's more than likely the home was canvassed prior, either by the kidnapper himself or an accomplice. Whether or not they knew a camera was there was a culmination of their reconnaissance," he stated.

The suspect’s behavior in the clip, mainly the attempt to tamper with surveillance equipment, adds weight to the idea that the crime was carefully planned.

Not a Random Crime, Says Investigator

Rejecting the possibility of a botched burglary, Dabb highlighted that the situations point clearly toward a deliberate abduction.

"Burglars don't go to burglarize a house with a full backpack. This was a kidnapping," he stated.
