The report emphasizes that most moves happened were local rather than cross-country. Around 78.49% of relocations took place within the same state, while a smaller but still significant segment more than 3 million people moved across state lines. Several of these interstate movers select places in the Southeast, reinforcing the area’s ongoing population growth.

HireAHelper’s analysis discovered that South Carolina emerged as the fastest-growing state in 2025, recording a 1.5% population spike. This growth was strongly associated with domestic migration trends, with the state receiving 41,548 new residents and a net inflow of 79.7 people per 10,000 population.

The state’s population surge was influenced by a combination of economic and lifestyle elements. A relatively affordable cost of living compared to higher-cost states like New York, California, and Illinois made South Carolina an attracting choice for families and working professionals.

The analysis concentrated on major patterns such as where people were moving from and to, the balance between intrastate and interstate moves, and demographic characteristics of those relocating.
