Based on alerts received by the US Embassy in South Africa about a possible terror attack as early as Saturday, major events might be stalled. The event organisers in Sandton are mulling to cancel their events that are to come up in the next few days. Sandton is an upmarket business district in Johannesburg, and the fallout can be quite grave, taking the threat seriously.
The terror threat came up on Wednesday, and officials were worried that the effect on the business district would be severe. According to them, large gatherings would be targeted in the greater Sandton area. The US embassy in South Africa has issued the notice through email and website and advised people to avoid large gatherings and crowded marketplaces.
The last time a terror attack was executed was in 2015 in Paris, France. The Bataclan Theatre was targeted by a terrorist group, and 129 people were killed. There were bomb attacks elsewhere around Paris, and 400 people in all were injured. Terrorists have been lying low for some time now, so a threat to the US Embassy in South Africa must be taken seriously.
