Evansville warehouse fire’s massive smoke visible on weather radar

On Monday, at 9.15 am, the Evansville Fire Department reported that the warehouse fire at 119 N Morton Avenue was contained and had no danger of spreading. The fire was still burning within the warehouse and neighbouring buildings. There was no information on the possible cause of the blaze, and no injuries were reported. However, the smoke from the fire is visible from Newburgh to the West Side.





The fire began before 5 am and impacted several buildings. Almost every fire truck in the city responded to the fire in addition to a unit from Henderson, Kentucky. There were dozens of firefighters on the scene, and they were expected to be there for several hours.


Neighbouring businesses were notified of the fire at 5.15 am and rushed to move vehicles and sensitive documents out of the area.


Expressway Closed
At around 9.30 am, the westbound Lloyd Expressway was closed from US 41 to Main Street. This caused the traffic to back up. The roadway would likely stay closed till the firefighters are done. Bystanders reported that when they arrived at the fire, smoke was blown all over by the wind.
