Enhance your Google Docs with borders: Two methods to try

While Google Docs may not provide a direct option to add a border around the entire page, the two methods mentioned in this article offer effective workarounds.

A well-liked application for creating documents, Google Docs is noted for its simplicity and user-friendly design. There are ways to create certain formatting effects, such creating a border all the way around the page, even if it may not have all the sophisticated capabilities available in word processors like Microsoft Word. In this post, we'll go through two alternative ways to add borders to your Google Docs papers to make them seem better.

Method 1: Creating a Border Using a Table

  • Open your Google Docs document and navigate to the top menu.
  • Click on "Insert" and select "Table."
  • From the options presented, choose the upper-left square to create a 1x1 cell on the page.
  • To expand the cell, press "Enter" (PC) or "Return" (Mac) repeatedly until it extends down the entire page, even flowing onto subsequent pages.
  • Next, click on "Format," followed by "Table" and then "Table Properties."
  • In the "Table properties" box, you can customize the cell's color, thickness, and padding to adjust the space between the border and the text on the page.
  • Once you are satisfied with the settings, click "OK."
  • Optionally, if you want the border to be closer to the edge of the page, you can reduce the page margins by going to "File," selecting "Page setup," and adjusting the margins for top, bottom, left, and right.

Method 2: Adding a Border Using an Image

  • Launch Google Docs and go to the top menu.
  • Click on "Insert," followed by "Drawing," and then "+ New."
  • In the Drawing window, insert an image of the border you wish to use. You can paste it if it's already copied to the clipboard, or use the Image button in the toolbar to insert it from your computer, Google Drive, or a URL.
  • If you prefer, you can search the web for an image by clicking "Search" and entering relevant keywords in the Google search bar at the top.
  • Once you have the desired image, click "Select" to add it to the Drawing.
  • In the toolbar, click on the Text Box button and create a text box inside the border.
  • Enter the desired text within the text box, and when you are finished, click "Save and Close."
